The sound of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs is a mix of rock, ska, jazz, folk, reggae, funk and big band. The full horn section gives the band a powerful sound.
"Matador" ("The Killer") was first released on their 1993 album Vasos Vacíos and is considered their signature song.
The song narrates the story of a revolutionary ("El Matador") hunted down by law enforcement from the revolutionary's perspective. The song references Víctor Jara, a Chilean folksinger and supporter of the Allende government who was kidnapped, tortured and assassinated shortly after the Chilean coup of 1973.
