Manu Chao was born in France to Spanish parents. He sings in French, Spanish, English, Italian, Galician, Portuguese, Arabic, and Wolof. He often mixes languages in one song.
Chao is often credited with helping to launch Latin Alternative music, especially with his band Mano Negra.
"Clandestino" is the title track to Chao's first solo album, released in 1998.
