Born in Los Angeles, Julieta Venegas grew up in Tijuana, Mexico. She plays several instruments including acoustic guitar, accordion, and keyboard. She has won five Latin Grammys and one Grammy Award among other awards. She has composed music for theater and performed in soundtracks for two movies.

Marisa Monte is a classically trained Brazilian singer. A recent New York Times article said: (an) aura of benevolence runs through her songs, burnished by one of the most exquisite voices in Brazilian music.
