Some background on El Maestro, Bebo Valdes, who passed away in 2013.

He was a top composer and arranger in Cuba in the 1940s and 50s who left after the revolution there. He moved to Scandinavia where he played piano in a hotel lounge.

Thankfully, for all of us, he was rediscovered late in life and had a second career that enriched the musical world immensely. I could listen to him play all day.
